A colonoscopy uses a flexible camera (Colonoscope) passed through your anus to thoroughly inspect the lining (mucosa) of your entire colon (large bowel). A colonoscopy is usually performed under a sedation anaesthetic. To ensure your doctor has a clear view, you will be required to drink a bowel preparation solution that cleanses your colon prior to undergoing your colonoscopy. In some cases it is necessary for a biopsy (a small sample of tissue) or removal of a polyp (abnormal superficial growth) from your colon, these samples will be sent to pathology to be examined under the microscope.

During the week prior to your procedure, Dr Lee’s Practice Nurse will telephone or SMS you to enquire whether you have any queries regarding the bowel preparation. Please utilise their recommendation as having good bowel preparation is critical to a high quality examination.
